All classrooms participated in our Smith Math Olympics by attending the Opening Ceremony on Friday, February 12, 2010. Each class carried a class banner as they marched around the cafeteria. Students then recited the Smith Math Olympic Oath...

“In the name of all Smith students, I promise that we shall take part in these Smith Math Winter Olympics, respecting and abiding by the rules which govern them, committing ourselves to math skills, in the true spirit of education, for the glory of math and the honor of our school.”

The Smith Math Olympics have been implemented in order to help students improve their math skills and to have fun with math. Each grade level has set a math goal for their students focused on a particular math skill. Students will have the opportunity to win one of three levels of medals---Bronze, Silver, or Gold. The medals will be earned based on achievement of grade level math skills. The accomplishment of this goal will be assessed by the teacher during the two-weeks (after students have had time to “PRACTICE” and “TRAIN” for this math event). Just like an Olympic Athlete, students must “Practice and Train daily” in order to learn and master their math skills! It takes hard work to make your goal/dream happen!
